Crew is Flaviano Raschietti, Leopoldo Morbin, Mauro Forlani, Nicola Cracco, Mauro Bertuzzo.
Crew is an English word meaning team, group, squad, or, also, with a now obsolete term, collective. We are a small crew, just a crew, because we have embarked on an adventure with no captains. There is no white whale on the horizon to chase. Ours, rather, is a colorful, visionary, enthusiastic, yet rigorous, precise, rational challenge.

Patterns, recurring motifs in our work are the rows. Combinatorial schemes of horizontal or vertical rows. Series of rows displaying mathematical numerical successions. Curved rows and striped curves in our most recent three-dimensional works.

WE ARE OULIPIANS
Raymond Queneau, Le Lionnais and OuLiPo, the literary group they founded in 1960, are among our greatest inspirations. OuLiPo is the contraction of Ouvroir de littérature potentielle (“Opificio of Potential Literature”). A small crew of writers-mathematicians and mathematicians-writers who love literature, eager to explore the possibilities of the marriage between the most rigorous of the sciences and poetry, novels and creative writing.

The crew. The paper. The lines. And the spirit of the oulipians, searching for new structures for their writing. Ours is a more artisanal, manual making. We assemble rows of paper according to mathematical structures, numerical successions, combinatorial rules such as arrangements, permutations, and combinations. We follow Queneau, Le Lionnais, Calvino, Perec and others using math in our visual research.
